It is also available on the Amiga -- the original platform it was released
for. I've got it, but haven't done much recently, so my memory is fading.
It loads Digitial Elevation Map files (VRLI sells many volumes of Earth
and extraterrestrial [Mars] maps) ??It can also load an IFF image as a
sort of bump map and make landscapes out of it?? I remember doing this,
but I think it might have been done with a utility program.
You can play with the ocean levels, add rivers and lakes. It does pretty
fair simulations of plant life - cacti, pines, oaks, etc. It does
atmospheric fog and can render pretty good clouds. The last time I used
it I made a flyby of a crater on Mars filled with water and planted with
trees. The animation played back directly from the hard drive using a
utility included with VistaPro.
There are also support programs from VRLI and MEGAGEM that help with
VistaPro. ScapeMaker converts IFF files to DEM maps. Terraform lets
you build DEM maps directly. Another utility from VRLI, (I won't
remember the name till after I email this :-), lets you manipulate
the camera flightpath.
I like the program, though there hasn't been an Amiga upgrade for a
while even though VRLI now releases what I belive is an enhanced
version for the PC and Mac along with a CD containing a big pile-o-DEMs.
I may end up getting Scenery Animator or World Construction Set if
VRLI doesn't make a positive move in the Amiga market soon.

Amiga's level of performance would just save themselves the trouble and buy
Amigas in the first place. But they don't know any better -- they read BYTE."
